1909 Comments right on about Chronology in many ways

a little hard to read, but worth the trouble, i think.

i like his comments about the whole issue of diliberation is unnecessary, when the prophecy of the last days is all required for bible students to understand or look for..

CTR sent his trusted Hennings (who had married the "infamous" Rose Ball) to set up the organisation in Australia. You will see Henninges' name in earlier Watchtower magazines; I think he was the Secretary or maybe the Treasurer (it's a while since I looked).

The Henninges defected in 1909, setting up their own organisation, which still has a small membership here in Melbourne. Their defection is reflected in the reports (or lack of) in the Watchtower magazine for that year.

As the name indicates, the differences were related to the covenant.

Several of Henninges books are held at the State Library of Victoria, here in Melbourne.

A while ago, I took photos of their grave site at a local cemetery.

Society tells us to stop asking questions...

i was just glancing at the back of the october 15th watchtower and the questions from readers.

the question under discussion is "what should i do when i have a question about something i read in the bible or when i need advice about a personal problem?".

the article goes on to discuss how we should consult the watch tower publications index among the many 'tools' that have been provided by the faithful and discreet slave whenever we have a question that is not directly discussed in the publications.. one statement really caught my eye, because it's the first time i've ever seen the society actually dissuade people from writing in with questions.

It is my understanding that the role of the GB is to teach the FDS (the 144,000) ("feed my sheep")

the online version 4 of carl olof jonssons book, gentile times reconsidered is illegal.. unknown to carl, a swedish man prepared his book for the web and put his name on the copyright page.

he also made some changes and additions to the book that carl does not accept.. he had it published and many have loaded it down from that site and published it on their sites.. doug.

I do not know the changes, and have simply provided the text of Carl's concern.

As you would expect, I am not prepared to provide any links, given the illegality of the work. When you do manage to find a copy, you will see the admission on the title page that it was prepared by someone else other than Carl.

Copyright Issues

one of the points ray franz brought out in both his books is that most of the early literature is out of print and simply unavailable to jehovah's witnesses (or anyone else) today.. would there be any copyright issues involved in setting up a website, or an addition to this website (just a scenario) with a database of all this old leterature?

are writings from 100 years ago considered public domain now?.

i realize it would be a massive undertaking but with so many people contributing literature from their own collections.... .

I think the magazine "Golden Age" was like a 1930s precursor to "Awake!". It was edited by a person who had the strangest "medical" ideas, although he did not carry on about the medical use of blood. I recall seeing an article (possibly from the late 30s/early 40s) which lauded the fact that a woman's life was saved through that procedure.

Apologies for the lack of detail, but I do not have them immediately to hand.

this is equal to 3.5 lunar years of 360 days.

We think the first Returnees rededicated the temple site in 537 BCE. We think this marked the end of the 70 Years.

And:

We think that Judea became devoid of every person when a group of them entered Egypt. We think this marked the start of the 70 years. We think this happened in the same year that Jerusalem was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar.

Wouldn't the predators on the ark have eaten everything by the time the 40 days was over?

let say noah did manage to get all the species into the ark... about half of them would have been predators and the other half natural prey.. are we going to belive that they went without eating for 40 days and nights?

or the ridiculous theory as the wt would have it that noah fed them nice tasty bales of straw which they happily munched on?.

and even if one of these two exhuses were true, when the animals were let out of the ark into a world now deverstated by a flood, then wouldn't they have continued eating eachother???
